It occurred to me that she didn’t use the Limit Sell on LindeX to sell her L$. I was surprised by this: why wouldn’t everyone use it? After talking to a few friends, I realized that many people didn’t know of, or didn’t know how to use Limit Sell.

Limit Sell is a way to manage how much you sell your L$ for. Generally, you get a better rate by setting your own price. I have therefore included a tutorial for those who sell L$, so they can get the most out of their money.

From your Dashboard page, click on manage.

Click on L$ Exchange Settings.

On the settings page, click the button for Advanced Settings, and then press submit.

You should be taken to the LindeX Exchange page. Press the blue “Sell L$” button that is halfway down the page. If you are not taken to the LindeX page, use the links on the dashboard to navigate to “Manage”, then to “Sell L$”.

You should now be given a page that looks like this:

As we can see, there are two areas where you can sell your L$. To get the most out of selling your L$, you should *always* use Limit Sell. The wording on this is confusing. Selling in this way really isn’t more limiting; you just get to pick the amount of your rates.

You must use the Limit Sell wisely. Inputting the wrong rates can leave you with L$ stuck in the LindeX, or you might accidently sell them at a bad rate.  To figure out the perfect limit, scroll down the page a little more.

This is all of the current open sell orders. To understand what this means, look at the first line. An unknown amount of people have offered to sell 1,017,157 L$ total at the rate of L$260/US$1.00. The next person who chooses to buy L$ can get it at this rate (Minus any fees that LL takes). Essentially, some seller has said, “I will give you some L$, at the rate of 260 per $1.00US”. Buyers will happily take this rate, which is better than the current default of around 253 L$ per $1.00US. These open orders give buyers more L$ for their buck.

So, as a seller, how do you get the most out of this? It’s easy when you remember that a buyer wants as many L$ as they can get per dollar. So, this is what you do: Give them the most L$ for their dollar!

Let’s say you wanted to sell L$20,000. To give the buyer the best deal, you would want to sell it cheaper than everyone else. But don’t go too much cheaper! You still want to make the most money that you can. You worked hard for it! The ideal rate to sell at here would be $L261/US$1.00.

In this example, you would get at or near US$73.86 for your L$.

Let’s see how much you would get using the market sell.

US$71.66.

Is this extra effort worth it? Yes, if you’re selling L$ constantly. And the best part is: buyers grab your Limit Sell very quickly.

As we can see from my inbox, my L$ sold within seconds. It’s not instant, but it’s close enough!

After your L$ has sold, it sits in your Second Life account. Keeping money here is beneficial, as your land or island tier will come out of this automatically before it charges your bank or PayPal.

From your dashboard, click on “Account”, then on “Account Summary”. You will see your Linden Dollar balance and your US Dollar balance (Or another value, depending on where you live). If you are waiting on your sell order, you can watch your US Dollar balance rise by refreshing your browser.

By pressing the “Process Credit” link near your US Dollar balance, you can send your money to PayPal. Unfortunately, this is the longest process. LL will hold onto your money for about a week before they send it to you. Why? Who knows, really? Maybe they process it all manually. However it’s a tendency for companies to hold onto money as long as they can… especially if it’s in some bank account where they gain interest.

If you sell a lot of L$ often, then the length of time may not matter. With a steady flow of income, it may not be too bad to wait a week. However if you are more concerned with time, then the best way to sell is over XStreet SL, which sends money to your PayPal account immediately.
